JAKARTA - There are 79 social media accounts given a warning by the virtual police. These accounts were warned for uploading SARA content as well as hate speech.

"Now there are 79 accounts sent (warning) via DM (direct message)," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono, to reporters, Wednesday, March 10.

Rusdi said the social media accounts belonged to individuals. The majority were warned for hate speech.

"Yes, they may have personal sentiments so it could be like that. Of course this is what needs to be observed. Sometimes personal problems are brought up to social media," he said.

After being given a warning by the virtual police team, the owner of the social media account called Rusdi removed content that was against the rules of the ITE Law.

"The majority changes, the response is good. Actually, if we know it, well, that's already a crime. But, here is police policy. When people see that people have been involved in criminal acts, it is reminded," said Rusdi.

Virtual Police is a follow-up to the Chief of Police Circular (SE) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo numbered: SE / 2/11/2021 concerning Ethical Cultural Awareness to Create a Clean, Healthy and Productive Indonesian Digital Space.

In the SE, the National Police Chief requested that the handling of cases of violations of the ITE Law prioritize restorative justice efforts.
