Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Ahmad Doli Kurnia rejected the proposal of a member of Commission II of the DPR from the PDIP faction, Hugua, who asked the KPU to legalize money politics (money politics) in the KPU Regulation in the 2024 Pilkada.

Doli emphasized that the practice of money politics will not be legalized. Because according to him, every election participant needs to prioritize honesty.

"We are not legalizing it, we are anti-moral hazard of elections, antimoney politics," said Doli at the DPR building, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 15.

Nevertheless, Doli said, his party would discuss and evaluate the proposed legalized money politics comprehensively.

"So we will hold a comprehensive meeting on the electability of all of us, including the matter (money politics)," he said.

Previously, a member of Commission II of the DPR from the PDI-P faction, Hugua, proposed to the KPU to legalize the practice of money politics in the 2024 Pilkada contestation. With the condition that there are nominal limits regulated.

The proposal was conveyed by Hugua during a working meeting (raker) of Commission II of the DPR with the KPU, Bawaslu, DKPP, and the Ministry of Home Affairs in the DPR Commission II meeting room.

"Don't we think money politics is legalized in PKPU with certain limits? Because money politics is a necessity, (without, red) money politics, no one chooses, no one chooses in society because the atmosphere is different," said Hugua.

According to Hugua, money politics is a natural thing in society. Therefore, he considered it necessary to legalize it in the language of political costs or with a certain amount limit.

"So if this PKPU term money politics with cost politics tries to be confirmed and the language is legalized, what limit is it so that Bawaslu also knows that this money politics must be minimized, because if this item is not legalized, we will continue to be cat and mouse, the winners in the future are merchants," said Hugua.

The legislator for the Southeast Sulawesi electoral district said that contestation with money politics had a negative impact. Especially on people who have no capital.

So he said again, money politics should be legalized by limiting the maximum amount.

"So we should just legalize it with certain limits. We legalize a maximum of Rp. 20,000 or Rp. 50,000 or Rp. 1,000,000 or Rp. 5,000,000," concluded Hugua.
