JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sacked the head of security for the president in charge of his protection after two of his officers were detained on suspicion of a murder plot against him.

Reporting from Reuters on Saturday, May 11, the dismissal of the Head of State Security Administration (UDO) Serhii Rud was revealed in a decision published on the presidential website. There is no reason for the dismissal to be mentioned.

According to Ukrainian state media, Ukrinform, Rud was appointed to be Zelensky's main bodyguard in October 2019. His successor has not been named.

UDO is tasked with ensuring the security of Ukraine's president and senior state officials, as well as the protection of administrative buildings.

Earlier this week it was revealed that Ukraine detained two security officials suspected of being involved in Russia's plot to kill Zelensky.

Two UDO colonels have been accused of "subversive activities against Ukraine in exchange for financial compensation," the Ukrainian Attorney General's office said.

The two colonels were charged with treason; another person is also accused of preparing for a terrorist act.

Kyiv's State Security Service (SBU) said it had thwarted plans to kill Zelensky and other senior Ukrainian officials, including the head of SBU, Vasyl Maliuk, and Ukraine's head of Defense Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov.

The prosecutor's office said one of the suspects received two drones and ammunition from the Russian state security service (FSB), which they would transfer to another accomplice to carry out the explosion.

Zelensky has reportedly faced several assassination attempts since Russia began a massive invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

In addition to the assassination plan, Zelensky has experienced a number of assassination attempts during his visit to the front lines and Ukrainian cities under Russian bombings.
