Papuan Police Chief Concerned OPM Burns School Building, How Is His Firm Action?

JAYAPURA - Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri expressed his concern about the arson carried out by the Free Papua Organization (OPM) against schools in Papua.

"As a Papuan child, I am concerned about the burning of the school building carried out by the OPM because the impact is very large, especially for the younger generation," said the Papuan Police Chief, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 2.

In addition to burning the school building, he said, the armed groups also intimidated teachers so that they felt scared. "How can teachers teach calmly without fear and concerns about the occurrence of security disturbances against them," he said.

In addition to burning the school building, the OPM also burned the puskesmas and interfered with and attacked medical personnel.

To minimize the actions carried out by the OPM, he said, it is hoped that the community will participate in providing education to members of the group so as not to commit criminal acts by intimidating teachers and medical personnel and burning schools and health centers.

"The community should help so that the group does not burn public facilities, both schools and health centers," hoped Inspector General Fakhiri.

OPM on Wednesday (1/5) burned SDN Inpres Pogapa, Homeyo District, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua. Earlier Tuesday (30/4) the OPM attacked the Homeyo Police, killing a civilian.
