JAKARTA - The Constitutional Court (MK) considers that there are no problems in the requirements of Gibran Rakabuming Raka as a vice presidential candidate (cawapres) in the 2024 presidential election.
This was in response to the argument of Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskadar in his petition which stated that Gibran's candidacy was invalid due to an ethical violation of decision number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 which passed him as a vice presidential candidate.
"According to the Court, there were no problems in fulfilling these conditions for Gibran Rakabuming Raka as a vice presidential candidate from related parties," said Constitutional Court judge Arief Hidayat in the Court courtroom, Monday, April 22.
Arief said that the decision of the Constitutional Court Honorary Council (MKMK) which stated that there was a serious violation of the decision 90/PUU/XXI/2023 could not necessarily be sufficient evidence to convince the court that there had been a nepotism that gave birth to the abuse of power of President Joko Widodo in changing the conditions of the vice president.
"The results of the verification and determination of the candidate pair carried out by the respondent are in accordance with these provisions and there is no convincing evidence from the court that there has been intervention in changing the requirements of the candidate pair in the 2024 vice president election," explained Arief.
The Constitutional Court panel of judges began reading the decision of the 2024 presidential election dispute trial at a trial that was held since 09.00 WIB.
Even though on one trial agenda, the verdict was read out separately according to the case registration number, namely the presidential and vice-presidential candidate pair number 1 Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, then presidential and vice-presidential candidates number 3 Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.
