Contributing 15 Percent Of National GDP, Karawang Legislators Urge The Government To Seriously Overcome COVID B117

JAKARTA - Member of Commission XI DPR RI Princess Anetta Komarudin urged the government to immediately anticipate the spread of the new B117 corona virus mutation.

This new variant is said to be more infectious, so according to him, an alert response through testing and tracking needs to be done massively in order to prevent the spread rate. Moreover, Karawang Regency had become a red zone at the beginning of the year because of the transmission cluster in the industrial area.

"This threat must be watched out for and requires synergy from the central and regional governments," said Puteri in her written statement, Friday, March 5.

The West Java legislator assessed that the speed of handling this new variant of the virus could also affect the strategic role and contribution of Karawang Regency in supporting the West Java and national economy.

According to him, Karawang has a competitive advantage as one of the largest industrial agglomeration centers in Indonesia, which is also a major contributor to the economy of West Java.

"Where, this province also supports nearly 15 percent of the National GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Therefore, the success of handling the spread of virus mutations in Karawang Regency will certainly have an impact on the pace of the regional and national economy," he said.

For this reason, the Deputy Secretary of the Golkar Party faction urged the government to immediately develop an in-depth study of the development, risks and dangers of this new variant of the B117 virus.

Either by learning from the experience of the UK and other countries that have also received the spread of virus mutations, and by involving various universities and research institutions in Indonesia.

"The goal is that we can find out what methods are the most effective and needed to prevent the escalation of transmission of this new variant of the virus. Especially, the current effectiveness of vaccines can protect against mutation of the virus, "said Puteri.

It is known, the Government officially confirmed two cases of mutation of the corona virus or COVID-19 with code B117 from England which were found in Karawang Regency, West Java. This case is the first since the variant broke out in the UK in September 2020.
