Rukyatul Hilal In Palembang Failed, 1Syawal Follows Central Government Decree

Palembang - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) of South Sumatra Province conducted rukyatullhilal to determine the beginning of the month of Syawal 1445 Hijriah or Eid al-Fitr in Palembang City this year. However, monitoring on the helipad of a hotel in Palembang on Tuesday 9 April which was led directly by the Head of the South Sumatra Ministry of Religion Regional Office, Syafitri Irwan, was disrupted by rainy weather.

"Although this afternoon's hilal is likely to be rukyat, in Palembang City it cannot be rukyat due to the influence of the rainy weather," said Syafitri Irwan.

Based on the criteria for Imkanurrukyah Mabims (Minister of Religion of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore) with a minimum height of 3 degrees and an elongation angle of at least 6.4 degrees, it is predicted that on 1st Syawal 1445 Hijri will fall on Wednesday 10 April.

"We immediately conveyed the results of this monitoring to the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia as a reference material at the Isbat session for the syawal 1445 H determination," he added.

Although the rukyatul hilal in Palembang cannot be done due to the weather, the atmosphere of Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri has been felt at the Great Mosque of Palembang. The sound of takbir echoed to make the congregation soluble in welcoming Eid al-Fitr.

"It doesn't feel like tomorrow April 10th, it's Eid after 30 days of fasting and this takbir germ makes my heart happy," said Romi, a local resident.

Thus, the people of Palembang and its surroundings are looking forward to the official determination of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the 1st of Syawal 1445 Hijri as a reference for this year's Eid al-Fitr celebration.
