TNI Explains Reasons For Assistance For Gaza Deployed By Jordanian Air Force

Head of the TNI Information Center Major General TNI Nugraha Gumilar explained that Indonesia had not yet obtained permission to fly over Gaza's airspace so that assistance for the Palestinian people in Gaza was deployed by the Jordanian Air Force.

Therefore, the mission of sending the latest aid departing from Jakarta, Friday, March 29, was transported to Jordan first, then deployed from above the altitude on a Jordanian Air Force plane.

"We (TNI, ed) only take them there (Yordania, ed) because there are certain permits that we do not get permission for. Now (permission) that, which we get Jordan, we entrust Jordan, please drop it with our umbrella and also our foodstuffs, as well as their foodstuffs," said Kapuspen TNI after the departure ceremony for the delivery of people's air umbrella (PUO) and an air umbrella for goods (PUB) for Gaza at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, Friday.

Until March 2024, Indonesia became the second country in Southeast Asia to send aid via air (airdrop) to Palestinians in Gaza.

Singapore on March 20, 2024, successfully completed a mission to deploy aid from aboard its C-130 Hercules to Gaza in collaboration with the Jordanian Air Force.

The Air Force's Hercules Air Force (RSAF) took off from King Abdullah II Air Base in Jordan, then flew at a low altitude above Gaza to deliver its main aid package in the form of food and medicine.

Beyond that, most of the countries that send aid via air (methodairdrop) to Gaza are also working with the Jordanian Air Force, which since December 25, 2023 routinely sends humanitarian aid via air to Palestinians in Gaza.

Some of the countries that deployed their assistance via air were the United States, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, England, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Oman, Bahrain, and Qatar.

Most of the countries are also working with the Jordanian Air Force when sending aid via air.

As of March 10, 2024, the Jordanian Air Force held at least 40 deliveries of aid by air, including along with other countries that also sent their aid to Gaza by air.

Delivery of aid via the air, which is currently popular as aairdrop, is one way to distribute humanitarian aid to Gaza, given the many other roads and land access that were destroyed by the onslaught of Israeli military attacks.

Regarding this, Indonesia also sent aid packages along with 900 people's air umbrellas (PUO) and 50 air umbrellas of goods (PUB) deployed from Jordanian Air Force aircraft. The air umbrella equipment was transported from Jakarta to Jordan using a new TNI AU C-130 J Super Hercules helicopter, Friday.

The delivery mission is scheduled to last for 10 days led by WingI Commander Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base Colonel Pnb. Noto Casnoto.

The mission involved 27 TNI personnel, most of whom were soldiers and the rest were diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
