MAKASSAR - Mattoanging Andi Mattalatta Stadium, Makassar, which previously became the concern of South Sulawesi Governor Nurdin Abdullah, is now being discussed again.

Makassar Mayor M Ramdhan Pomanto (Danny Pomanto) admitted that he did not cancel the Mattoanging renovations after Nurdin Abdullah was arrested by the KPK for alleged corruption cases.

"So you see, I have never canceled people's ideas, including the idea of a stadium, please build a stadium," Danny Pomanto told reporters, Wednesday, March 3.

He emphasized that there was no intention of canceling the renovation of the Mattoanging Stadium. In the past, Nurdin Abdullah had promised a budget of up to IDR 1 trillion for the total renovation of Mattoanging. But Danny Pomanto gave notes about renovations.

"But (the construction should be, red) in a place where the zoning permit is in accordance with the spatial layout. I do not cancel the idea, what I want is, look for a place that fits the spatial layout and that is in Barombong. If you want to build next to the Barombong Stadium, there are two. the stadium is okay, "said Danny Pomanto.

The community, especially football lovers in Makassar, hopes that the construction of the Mattoanging stadium can be accelerated. However, Danny Pomanto said that the construction of the stadium could be done according to the rules but it had to be near the Barombong stadium.

"Please build in Barombong, the important thing is in accordance with the place. Well, because the community does not understand, if (the Mattoanging renovation) is complete, and it causes traffic jams, the community will also be affected. I know this is something because I am a city planner," he continued.

Previously, the old Mattoanging Stadium building was demolished and was leveled to the ground for the next stage of the renovation project. The demolition of the old Mattoanging Stadium building was immediately led by Nurdin Abdullah some time ago.

Previously, the Governor of South Sulawesi (Sulsel) Nurdin Abdullah spoke about the rebuilding of the Andi Mattalatta Mattoanging Stadium in Makassar. After completion, Mattoanging Stadium is believed to have a positive impact on the South Sulawesi economy.

"Imagine if there is a national event, the President's championship, the League, plus FIFA also plays here, the hotel is full. All parties, continued Governor Nurdin, are expected to support the construction process of the Mattoanging Stadium. The target to rebuild the stadium is expected to be completed in 18 months.

"Our task is how we succeed. In the near future we will auction the demolition, finished this month. After that we will auction to carry out physical construction, hopefully we can enjoy it in the next 18 months," he said.

When the construction of the Mattoanging Stadium is completed, this stadium will increase the driving force for economic growth in South Sulawesi. Moreover, the current economic conditions have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Secondly, we always hope that this stadium will be completed, one more facility for us and that will encourage economic recovery," he added.
