Immigration Calls 75 Rohingya Ethnics Temporarily Accommodated In West Aceh

ACEH - The Immigration Office for Non-Immigration Checkpoints (TPI) Meulaboh, West Aceh Regency, recorded the number of Rohingya ethnic groups currently accommodated at the local Indonesian Red Cross Office (PMI) as many as 75 people. "This number of Rohingya ethnicities was recorded after we collected data in a temporary shelter," said Acting Head of the Meulaboh Immigration Office, Jamaluddin in Meulaboh, Antara, Monday, March 25. He said that in dealing with refugees from abroad, his party referred to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 125 of 2016 concerning the handling of refugees from abroad. In accordance with Article 34 paragraph (1) of the Presidential Regulation, said Jamaluddin, it was stated that immigration supervision of refugees when found was carried out by means of inspection and data collection as referred to in Article 13 paragraph (2) and Article 20 paragraph (1). Then in Article 20 paragraph (1) in the Presidential Decree, he said, it was stated that Immigration detention house officers carried out data collection through examination of travel documents, immigration status, and identity. However, after collecting data on 75 Rohingya ethnic residents, said Jamaluddin, all these foreigners did not have immigration identities or documents. "Because they do not have immigration documents, the Rohingya refugees have now been handed over to UNHCR and IOM as the authorized institution for handling refugees," he said. According to him, for foreigners who do not have citizenship or immigration documents, the Indonesian Immigration Authority cannot deport refugees.

Information obtained by Immigration, in the group, it is suspected that there are also a number of Bangladeshi citizens, but because they do not have any documents, the detection of these citizens has so far not been possible.
