MAGELANG - Dozens of houses in Magelang Regency, Central Java, were damaged in the mild to moderate category due to being hit by strong winds.

Acting Head of BPBD Magelang Regency Edy Susanto said that around 14.00 WIB there was heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in a number of places in the area.

A number of areas that experienced heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, namely Muntilan, Salam, Ngluwar, Srumbung, Dukun, and Sawangan Districts.

"Even in the Muntilan District and the Dukun Subdistrict areas, small hailstones were reported," he said as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, March 2.

Edy said the impact of the high winds incident, for the time being, was recorded that 46 houses were slightly damaged and one house was moderately damaged as well as a number of fallen trees that damaged the PLN electricity network.

Handling in the field is carried out together with a joint team from elements of the BPBD, TNI, Polri, Satpol PP and Fire Department, PLN, volunteers, and the community.

"In some places the handling has not been completed and will be continued tomorrow (3/3) days considering the condition is already late and it is not possible to carry out further handling," he said.

Based on preliminary data collection, it was recorded that strong winds hit six sub-districts covering 25 villages with 42 hamlets.
