KPK Investigates Alleged Corruption Up To Billions Of Rupiah Related To Taxation

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating allegations of tax-related corruption. KPK Deputy Chairman Alexander Marwata confirmed the investigation of this tax case. But Alex did not explain the details of the case handling.

"We are really investigating, but the suspect will be in the investigation process looking for evidence to determine the suspect, this is what we are doing," said Alex, to reporters at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Tuesday, March 2.

Alex revealed that this case used a mode often used in taxation sector corruption, namely giving money to certain parties so that the value of their tax payments would be low. However, he did not want to mention the identity of the taxpayer who was suspected of committing this fraudulent practice.

"As with the previous tax handling, how can the tax audit be low, the principle is that. There is always a return when it comes to taxation, there is an interest between the PT and the tax officials. If you want low taxes there is a wage, right," he explained.

Alex was only able to reveal that the value of the bribe in this case reached tens of billions of rupiah, although he did not mention an exact figure.

"The bribes are also big, tens of billions," he said.

In investigating this case, Alex admitted that the KPK investigating team searched a number of locations. Alex emphasized that the investigation of this case was carried out by the KPK in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the Directorate General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance.

Later, the KPK will handle the corruption case, while the Ministry of Finance will re-examine tax payments that are suspected of being influenced by this illegal practice. "In order to determine the correct amount of tax, if it is true that there is a shortage of tax, the fine is 200 percent," he concluded.
