BMKG Warning: Extreme Weather Still Occurs Until Monday 18 March

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the potential for extreme weather that has an impact on increasing significant rainfall in several parts of Indonesia will still occur until Monday (18/3/2024).

The BMKG information channel quoted in Jakarta, early Sunday morning, stated that the results of the weather analysis identified Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) activity which was active as a trigger for increasing rainfall.

"And, the presence of three Tropical Cyclone seeds is predicted to cause the potential for moderate, heavy rain, accompanied by lightning or strong winds in parts of Indonesia until March 18, 2024," said the BMKG early warning quoted by Antara.

A number of areas that have the potential to be hit by extreme weather are Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.

Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati on Friday (15/3/2024) said three tropical cyclone seeds, namely 91S, 94S, and 93P, were monitored around the Indian Ocean south of Java, the Timor Sea, and the Australian Sea, which showed an influence on the southern part of Indonesia.

Based on meteorological analysis, it is known that Tropical Cyclone 91S seeds have a maximum wind speed of 30-35 knots (5665 km/h), air pressure at the center of the system of 994 hPa, movement to the southeast, and opportunities to become a tropical cyclone in the medium-high category.

Furthermore, the seeds of Tropical Cyclone 94S have a maximum wind speed of 15-20 knots (28-37 km/h), air pressure at the center of the system of 999.9 hPa, movement to the east-southeast, and opportunities to become tropical cyclones in the low category.

Likewise, Tropical Cyclone 93P seeds have a maximum wind speed of 20-25 knots (37-46 km/h), air pressure at the center of the system of 1003 hPa, movement to the southeast, and opportunities to become tropical cyclones in the low category.

For this reason, BMKG urges the public not to panic regarding information on the seeds of Tropical Cyclone 91S, 94S, and 93P, but remain alert to the potential for extreme weather.
