West Kalimantan Regional Police Named 8 Individual Suspects In The Forest And Land Fire Cases

PONTIANAK - The West Kalimantan Regional Police named eight individual suspects from seven cases of forest and land fires (Karhutla).

"Until now, we have handled seven cases and secured eight people suspected of being involved in burning forests and land", said Head of Public Relations of the West Kalimantan Regional Police, Donny Charles Go in Pontianak, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, March 2.

He explained that the seven Karhutla cases were handled from January to February.

"The eight suspects are being processed from the seven police reports we received", he said.

Seven forest and land fire cases were handled by a number of police stations. Most of them were in Mempawah Regional Police, with three cases, and others with one to two cases.

"The area of land that was burned due to the actions of the eight suspects ranged from three hectares to 14 hectares. The eight perpetrators were arrested from Pontianak City, three people, one person from Kubu Raya District, Mempawah Regency three people, and one person from North Kayong Regency", he said.

As for corporations, currently, the team from the West Kalimantan Regional Police of the Criminal Investigation Unit is conducting an investigation at the location of the fire. There are several satellite monitoring hotspots located in the company's concession area, he said.

"We will inform you of the progress later, and until now the team is continuing their efforts to carry out further investigations", continued Donny.

As previously reported, the Governor of West Kalimantan, Sutarmidji, stated that he had 57 names of burned landowners and would impose sanctions for burning the land that was carried out deliberately.

"The National Land Agency (BPN) has sent the names of the owners of the burnt land and currently around 57 names of the owners of the land have been recorded", he said.

The Governor of West Kalimantan also emphasized that he would take legal action against landowners who commit forest and land fires. "The land will be sealed, may not be used for five years and the perpetrators will be fined", he said.

In this case, the authorized parties to take action on the land sealing are the Police Task Force for each region.
