The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cianjur Regency has placed officers considering the extreme weather in the form of high waves of up to 5 meters hitting the south coast since the past week.

Head of BPBD Cianjur Asep Sukma Wijaya said his party also prohibited fishermen from going to sea.

"It was recorded that about 40 boats were damaged, 20 of them were heavily damaged and three boats were reported missing by high waves that hit the south coast, Tuesday (March 12), officers were also still collecting data on other south coasts such as Sindangbarang and Agrabinta," he said in Cianjur, March 13, quoted by Antara.

Based on information from the BMKG, he said, high waves would hit the southern coast of West Java, including Cianjur until the end of March, so that dozens of officers assisted by Disaster Resilient Volunteers (Retana) were alerted along the southern coast of Cianjur.

Officers will ask the community, especially fishermen on the south coast, not to go to sea or approach the shoreline to prevent unwanted things from happening, including marine accidents because it is estimated that waves can reach a height of 5 meters.

"We have conveyed the prohibition of going to sea and approaching the shoreline through village and sub-district officials along the south coast so that it is conveyed to residents, especially fishermen, not to carry out activities and land boats so that they are not damaged by the waves," he said.

Regarding the high waves that hit the southern coast of Cianjur for the last two days, dozens of fishing boats moored at the dock were damaged due to being hit by waves, so they carried out data collection in the hope of receiving assistance from the government.

"We have asked fishermen to land their boats to avoid being damaged by waves that information from the BMKG will continue to occur until the end of March. We are seeking assistance for fishermen whose boats are damaged and have been recorded," he said.

Meanwhile, fishermen on Jayanti Beach, Cidaun District, were forced to land their boats to avoid damage due to the high waves that hit the area. Dozens of fishermen were affected because their boats were heavily damaged and lost by the waves.

"We can only surrender and hope to get help from the government because the boat we used to use to go to sea was broken by waves. Since the past week, no fishermen have dared to go to sea because of high waves," said Jayanti Beach fisherman Iyenk Sukmayadi (34).
