BPBD Records 600 Families In South Lampung Still Trapped In Flood

A total of 600 families are reportedly still trapped in their respective homes due to the flood inundation in South Lampung Regency, Lampung. The statement was made by the Head of the Rapid Response Team of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Lampung Regency, Suyanto. “Banjir is widespread, inundating five hamlets with an estimated 600 affected families. They include residents of Hajimena Village and Sidosatri Village, Natar District,” Suyanto said in a report received in Jakarta, Antara, Monday, February 26. The South Lampung BPBD team reported that the floods that hit South Lampung Regency occurred on Saturday (24/2) night due to heavy rains that lasted a long time. Hijimena and Sidosatri villages were the most affected. Previously there were 29 local residents who were successfully evacuated because they were affected by the flood. However, Suyanto said, the impact of the high intensity rain that still flushed the area became a separate obstacle. The water level is known to reach more than 100 centimeters that inundate residential areas. In addition to the widespread flood and high water discharge, his party found access to locations with small roads, as well as minimal lighting equipment and communication tools to be obstacles to handling the victims. "“Until now the team is still at the location, evacuating and collecting data," he said. Apart from that, he ensured, basic necessities such as food, clean water and medicines had begun to be distributed, including the evacuation posts to ease the burden on the victims.

The rapid reaction team collaborated with the TNI-Polri and Basarnas to take advantage of clean water transported by water tankers, and local residents' wells, then medicines were obtained from the UPT of the Natar Health Center.
