The Indonesian House of Representatives delegation voiced Indonesia's national interests regarding the trade issue at the Steering Committee Parliamentary Conference on WTO (PC WTO) meeting in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Led by the Chairman of the Interparliament Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Fadli Zon, the issues raised regarding fisheries subsidies, public stockholding, trade and the environment.

"As well as the termination of the moratorium on the imposition of taxes on digital trade," wrote a statement from the BKSAP received on Sunday, February 25.

The Indonesian national interest was conveyed during the formulation of Outcome Document from parliament for the ministers of WTO member countries who will negotiate in the WTO PC.

As is known, the moratorium issue has the potential to bring heavy losses in terms of taxes, especially for developing countries. Indonesia itself now has the potential to lose revenue from taxes of USD 56 million, as has been reported in UNCTAD research in 2019.

Meanwhile, on the issue of fisheries, Indonesian subsidies are fighting for the fate of small and artistic fishermen who can be affected, besides the need for discipline for large fisheries companies to comply with the rules related to national regional boundaries as regulated in UNCLOS.

PC WTO is known to be held every year before the World Trade Organizations Ministerial Conference (KTM WTO). This year, the 13th WTO KTM will be held in Abu Dhabi on 24-25 February 2024.

Apart from Fadli, this WTO PC is also present as Deputy Chair of the BKSAP from the Democratic Faction, Putu Supadma Rudana and the PKS Faction, Sukamta.
