AHY: Struggle Can Be Realized When Democrats Join Government

Chairman of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said that his inauguration as minister of agrarianism and spatial planning/head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) by President Joko Widodo was a historic momentum for the party's return to government.

The eldest son of the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), added that with the joining of the party bearing the Starmercy to the government, the Democratic Party's struggle could be even more realized.

"Many may not realize that the Democrats for nine years and four months have been outside the government. This is a historic momentum because thank God, what we have been fighting for so far can be realized if the Democrats join the government," AHY said after the inauguration at the State Palace, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 21.

Dengan secara langsung menjadi bagian dari pemerintahan, lanjutnya, Partai demokrat akan lebih dapat berkontribusi melalui pengambilan kebijakan yang berdampak terhadap masyarakat.

"Because the policy is in the hands of the executive, although the struggle in parliament is also very important," he added.

AHY admitted that he was not burdened by his entry into the cabinet of President Jokowi's government, although he said he would need adaptation.

He also emphasized that the Democratic Party will oversee the rest of President Jokowi's government, especially in completing jobs and targets in the fields of agrarian and spatial planning, as well as resolving various land issues.

"What is clear, if asked, is that the Democratic extended family is very happy because after all, the main goal of politics, including political parties, is to be able to contribute as widely as possible through government, executive, and legislative channels," he said.

Presiden Jokowi melantik AHY sebagai menteri ATR/kepala BPN untuk menggantikan Hadi Tjahjanto,yang secara bersamaan juga dilantik sebagai menteri koordinator bidang politik, hukum, dan keamanan.

Jokowi said he did not hesitate to give the position of ATR minister/head of BPN to AHY, taking into account his role in politics and highlighting AHY's education in military and non-military academies.

The inauguration of AHY and Hadi was carried out simultaneously in accordance with Presidential Decree Number 34 P of 2024 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of State Ministers of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet for the 2019-2024 Period, which was determined by President Joko Widodo on February 20, 2024.
