JAKARTA - Acting (Plt.) Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Tito Karnavian admitted that he did not know about the news that Hadi Tjahjanto would be appointed as the definitive Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. "“I don't know yet. Not yet, I haven't received (news),” Tito said when met after attending the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the 2024 National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, February 20. Tito, who also serves as Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), explained that he was given the task by President Joko Widodo as Plt. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs until definitive officials were sworn in. "If for example the president already has a definitive official, it means that my job as Plt. is finished. I continue to carry out my duties as Minister of Home Affairs,” he said. Previously, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI Ahmad Sahroni heard the issue of the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Hadi Tjahjanto was immediately appointed as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. Sahroni heard the issue that the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo would inaugurate Hadi Tjahjanto as the definitive Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs on Wednesday (21/2). If the news is true, said the NasDem Party politician, the President is right to choose Hadi Tjahjanto as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, the position previously held by Mahfud Md. "If it is true, the President is very appropriate to choose him to become the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs," said Sahroni. Hadi Tjahjanto is a former TNI Commander who was inaugurated in 2017 to replace Gatot Nurmantyo. Before being appointed as TNI Commander, Hadi was also the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force for the 2017 — 2018 period. The President previously appointed Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian as Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs replacing Mahfud Md. who declared his resignation in the midst of his candidacy as vice president in the 2024 presidential election.

The appointment was conveyed by the President in Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 20/P of 2024 which was signed in Jakarta, Friday (2/2). The Presidential Decree also contains the matter of honorary dismissal of Mahfud MD. As the contents of the presidential decree, Tito Karnavian will become Plt. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs for the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet for the 2019 period — 2024 until the existence of a definitive Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.
