KLB Demokrat Party: Welcome Ibas, Bye AHY

JAKARTA - One by one, the Democrat Party's wing organizations have asked Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono to resign from his position as chairman of the Democratic Party. The pressure from the Extraordinary Demokrat Party Congress (KLB PD) grew even more after the support of a number of founders bearing the mercy symbol.

"We respectfully request Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono to step down", said the Chairman of the Central Executive Board, Young Demokrat Party Cadre (KMD) Aswin Ali Nasution during a press conference at Mega Kuningan, Jakarta, Thursday, February 25.

KMD hopes to hold a KLB so that the Democrats will become a more humanist, advanced, and modern party. Aswin assessed that the Democrat Party would gradually collapse if it was still headed by AHY due to a crisis of confidence in the ability of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's son to become the head of the Democrat Party.

"We do not want to see the Democrat Party destroyed. It is enough that the Branch Management Board (DPC) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) suffer because money was extorted from the Central Executive Board (DPP)", he said.

Despite rejecting AHY's leadership, Demokrat Party cadres still want their party to be led by SBY's son. KMD proposed the name Edhi Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas) as a candidate for secretary-general of the Demok Party. That is, the assumption that the KLB insistence because it is bored with the leadership of the Cikeas dynasty, is broken.

Aswin explained that the reason for the appointment of Ibas as a candidate for the Secretary-General of Democrats was because the man who is also familiarly called SBY deserves to be the leader of the party bearing the mercy symbol. The reason is, Ibas has gone through a regeneration process that runs in the party.

"The reason we chose it was because Ibas had carried out the regeneration. He was from below, just like us", said Aswin.

One of the founders of the Demokrat Party, HM Darmizal, supported Ibas if he was appointed as the leader of the Party.

"That's an opinion. They can nominate who to be the secretary-general. There is no prohibition", said Darmizal at Mega Kuningan, Thursday, February 25.

According to Darmizal, the party should be led by a more competent figure and bring the Democrats closer to the people. Because he said, currently the existence of PD tends to decline and is not ready to face the 2024 General Election.

"The Demokrat Party is now so-so, the Demokrat Party leadership center is sluggish and less prestigious than the PDIP, Gerindra, Golkar, Nasdem, and others. This is a danger to the fate of Demokrat Party in 2024. Please SBY understand this. Make a coalition with the people but the results of the survey and the facts prove that the Demokrat Party is shunned by the people", he said.

In fact, said Darmizal, the KLB proposal was emphasized more to restore the Democratic Party's health, not a coup attempt.

"This KLB is a natural movement of democracy, very healthy, and good for a turning point in picking up a bright future under a new leadership that is mature, qualified, has long experience serving the Republic of Indonesia", Darmizal concluded.

Meanwhile, Political Observer of the Indonesia Public Institute (IPI) Karyono Wibowo assessed that if more and more people disagree with the leadership of the Democratic Party today, the shock of party solidity will be even more pronounced.

If internal Democrats who are disappointed or dissatisfied with AHY's leadership crystallize, it could also threaten AHY's position and also threaten the position of the Cikeas dynasty family.
