Mahfud Reluctant To Link His Resignation With Other Ministers

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, who has submitted his resignation letter to President Joko Widodo, stated that he was reluctant to associate his resignation with other ministers.

This was stated by Mahfud when asked for his response regarding the hope that his resignation as a minister would be followed by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto who also ran in the 2024 presidential election.

"No, I don't want to. If I myself won't associate it with anyone else. This is just me. If someone else wants to link it, go ahead," Mahfud said after submitting his resignation letter to President Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, February 1.

Mahfud, who is the candidate for vice president number 3, stated that he wanted to resign from his ministerial position to set an example for other state officials not to abuse the position and facilities of the state for campaigns.

In his statement after meeting the President, Mahfud emphasized that he did not want to interfere in the affairs of other ministers.

"As for me, it's not someone else to stop or not. My ethics, I was appointed with full respect, so I had to face with full respect too. That's all if it's my ethics. I don't participate in other minister matters," he said.
