Palestinians In The West Bank Disappointed ICJ's Decision, Hoping A Ceasefire Will Be Carried Out

JAKARTA - Palestine responded to a temporary decision by the International Court (ICJ) to accept a genocide case filed by South Africa against Israel and Tel Aviv's actions to prevent genocide in Gaza.

But they said the decision was "under expectations."

Dozens of Palestinians gathered in Ramallah in the central West Bank and followed ICJ's announcement while waving banners demanding a ceasefire, justice and freedom for Palestinians.

"The decision is below expectations and below the crime rate," Abu Saleh Hisham told Anadolu as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, January 27.

He said the principle of accepting cases against Israel was "a victory for the Palestinian people, but we are still waiting for further action" against Israel.

Hala Abu Gharbiyeh described the decision as "disappointing and not achieving a minimum level of sacrifice and murder."

He expects firm orders to immediately carry out a ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid and evacuation of injured citizens to be treated abroad.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to take "all measures in its authority" to prevent genocide in Gaza but failed to order a ceasefire.

The ICJ ordered Israel to take immediate and effective action to enable the provision of basic services and much-needed humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip.

South Africa brought a genocide case against Israel to the ICJ at the end of last month and asked the ICJ to provide emergency measures to end the bloodshed in Gaza, where more than 26,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 7.
