Mataram Police Call Candidates Who Distribute Rice Plus Photo Stickers

MATARAM Mataram City Police, West Nusa Tenggara, sent a summons to a legislative candidate with the initials NKS regarding reports of alleged election crimes in the activity of distributing rice and photo stickers of himself as participants in the 2024 General Election.

"We have sent a summons for investigation needs. We hope that the person concerned will attend according to our schedule," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Mataram Police, Kompol I Made Yogi Purusa Utama, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 24.

The police summoned NKS for examination as a reported person suspected of violating election rules.

Apart from NKS, the police also sent summons to other witnesses. A total of seven witnesses have given statements to investigators.

Witnesses who have undergone examination are recipients of aid packages from NKS, reporters, and criminal experts as well as from the Mataram City Bawaslu.

The handling of this election criminal case is a follow-up to the submission of reports from the Mataram City Bawaslu.

In the report, it was stated that the NKS candidate's activity of distributing basic necessities with a photo sticker was suspected of violating Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections.

The report also includes evidence of NKS activities distributing rice packages with stickers of itself as a legislative candidate on one of Facebook's social media platforms.

The distribution is attached in the form of uploading photos and writing the status that directs the recipient of the rice package to choose it as a legislative candidate.

Police investigators have a deadline of 14 days to provide legal certainty from this report.

"Later, after we delegate it. The prosecutor's office has three days to conduct file research. If it can't be completed within the time limit, the case will die," said Yogi.
