SAR Searches For 56 Years Of Fishermen Fishing Alone Lost After Accident In South Buton Waters

The joint SAR team searched for a middle-aged fisherman suspected of missing while fishing around the waters of Teluk Lande, South Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra).

Head of Basarnas Kendari Muhammad Arafah said this information was first known by the South Buton BPBD after reports of a ship accident on Thursday, January 11 at around 22.25 WITA.

"One boat was loaded with a fisherman named La Alemari (56) who had not returned from fishing in the waters of Teluk Lande," said Arafah in Kendari, Friday, January 12, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said, based on the report, his party then dispatched the Baubau SAR Post Rescue Team to the scene to provide SAR assistance.

"For the distance from the reported location with the Baubau SAR Post, it is about 18.7 nautical miles," said Arafah.

Arafah said that currently the Joint SAR Team is conducting a second day of searching for the loss of victims where the search was carried out by combing the last area of the victim with a search area of 24 nautical miles.

"Several elements involved in the Joint SAR Team include the Baubau SAR Post, the RB 210 crew, the South Buton BPBD, the surrounding community, and the families of the victims," he said.

He also revealed that the chronology of the loss of the victim began when he went to sea to check his FAD in Teluk Lande waters by boat, on Wednesday, January 10 at around 17.00 WITA.

"With the habit of the victim returning in the morning at 06.00 WITA," he said.

However, continued Arafah, until now the victim has not returned from going to sea in the waters of Teluk Lande. The family and local community have conducted a search, but the victim has not been found.
