Bawaslu Still Lacks 5 Thousand TPS Supervisors In Jakarta

JAKARTA - Member of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of DKI Jakarta Province, Burhanuddin, admitted that his party still needed around 5 thousand people who were recruited as supervisors of polling stations (TPS) for the 2024 General Election in DKI Jakarta.

The TPS officers were recruited by Bawaslu on an ad hoc basis with a working period of 1 month. Based on registration period until January 7, the number of polling stations supervisors is still 24,602 people.

"There are still many shortcomings. 30,766 TPS supervisors are needed," said Burhanuddin in a short message, Thursday, January 11.

The registrant still needs to undergo the administrative verification process and interviews. Burhanuddin suspects that the number of polling stations supervisors has not been fulfilled due to lack of socialization to the public.

"Maybe the information has not reached all Jakartans," said Burhanuddin.

Therefore, the DKI Bawaslu is still opening registration for TPS officers until the supervisory needs are met at all polling stations.

"The registration time limit is still being discussed for extension," he continued.

Previously, a member of the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Herwyn Jefler Hielsa Malonda explained that the TPS supervisor was the center of election supervision during the voting and vote count stages and became a place for questions and consultations.

Herwyn stressed that the TPS supervisor must be selected carefully to prevent violations and ensure the smooth implementation of elections, referring to the experience of the 2019 Election where the TPS supervisor plays an important role in the election.

"It is important to get the best cadres, who can work efficiently in preventing violations and overcoming problems, especially during voting and vote counting," said Herwyn.

In the context of TPS supervisory recruitment, Herwyn said the latest regulations, such as a decrease in the minimum age to 21 years or even 17 years with certain requirements, have helped the recruitment process.

Recruitment is carried out by the sub-district supervisory committee (panwas) with supervision from Bawaslu in provinces, regencies and cities. After recruitment, the TPS supervisor received a briefing in January 2024.

As for being a TPS supervisor, it must meet the following requirements: 1. Indonesian citizens; 2. At the time of registration, the age is at its lowest 21 (twenty one) year.3. Loyalty to Pancasila as the basis of the state, the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia of 1945, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, and the ideals of the Proclamation of 17 August 1945;4. Having integrity, having a strong, honest, and fair personality;5. Having the ability and expertise related to the Implementation of Elections, strictaneity, partyhood, and Election Supervision;6. Educating the lowest high school or equivalent; 7. Domiciled in the local sub-district within the Regulation State of the Republic of Indonesia as evidenced by the Identity Card (KTP); 8. Physically, spiritually, and free from narcotics abuse; 9. Resigning from membership of political parties for at least 5 years at the time of registering as a PTPS candidate;10. Resigning yourself as a political office, office in government, and/or in a state-owned enterprise/business entity belonging to the region when registering as a candidate; never being sentenced to prison for 5 years or more, proved by a statement letter;11. Willing to work full time as proven by a statement letter; 12. Willing not to occupy a political position, position in government, and/or a state-owned enterprise/business entity belonging to the region during the membership period if elected;13. Not in marriage ties with fellow election organizers.
