Semarang Mayor Will Intensify The Prohibition Of Eating Dog Meat

SemarANG - Semarang Mayor Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu asked the relevant agencies to intensify the prohibition on eating dog meat that has been stated in regional regulations.

"There is already a regional regulation. We will more intensively socialize it to sub-districts, sub-districts, and the community for the prohibition of non-food meat," said Ita, Hevearita's nickname, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 8.

This was conveyed in response to the success of the Semarang Police in thwarting the shipment of hundreds of dogs from Subang, West Java to Sragen, Central Java.

Although hundreds of dogs were sent to Sragen on suspicion of being consumed, he asked the relevant agencies not to be careless with the circulation of dog meat in Semarang City.

Mbak Ita said the Semarang City Government already has Regional Regulation Number 2/2022 concerning Food Safety which regulates food that is safe and suitable for consumption, such as livestock.

According to him, dog meat is not suitable for consumption because it does not include livestock, so he asked the relevant agencies to intensify socialization and handling the circulation of dog meat.

Ita appreciates the Semarang Polrestabes for successfully thwarting the shipment of hundreds of dogs allegedly for consumption purposes as a commitment to support the ban on the circulation of dog meat.

In handling these dogs, the Semarang Polrestabes has also collaborated with the Semarang City Agriculture Service for temporary maintenance in the shelter.

"Polrestabes always coordinates with the Agriculture Service. Yesterday he received an 'update' from Mr. Hernowo (Head of Distant), now the dog is in a shelter. But the plan is to move it because the shelter is hot and stuffy," said Ita.

Previously, the Semarang Polrestabes secured a truck carrying 226 dogs of various types without official documents when crossing the Kalikangkung Toll Gate, Semarang, Saturday (6/1) night.

Semarang Police Chief Kombes Irwan Anwar explained that the action began with reports of animal protection activists stopping trucks carrying hundreds of dogs.

During the development, the police named five people as suspects in the case of sending hundreds of dogs, namely DH, a resident of Gemolong, Sragen Regency as an orderer and four people were truck crews.

From the perpetrator's statement, said Irwan, hundreds of dogs were imported from the Subang area, West Java, and of the 226 dogs transported by trucks, 12 of them were dead.
