A Number Of Villages In Bekasi Regency Flooded Due To Broken Embankment, Here Are The Details

JAKARTA - Four villages in Bekasi Regency were hit by floods. This flood was caused by a burst embankment on Sunday, at 01.00 WIB in the morning due to unable to accommodate rainwater.

"The BNPB Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) received reports from the local BPBD that floods hit four villages, namely Sukaurip, Karangsegar, Bantasari, and Sumber Urip Villages. The four villages are in Pebayuran District," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Raditya. Jati in his written statement, Sunday, February 21.

This flood caused five houses to be washed away and BPBD officers reported water levels reaching 100 to 150 cm.

"BPBD has identified urgent needs for emergency handling such as bamboo, sacks, instant noodles, mineral water, ready-to-eat food, medicines, vitamins, evacuation boats, boat engines, rope, and firing lights," he said.

In addition, based on the monitoring of the BNPB Quick Reaction Team (TRC), floods also occurred in Karawang Regency on Saturday, February 20 at around 22.00 WIB. Flooding occurred in 34 villages in 15 sub-districts and was caused by the high intensity of rain which caused overflow from the Citarum River.

The dozens of sub-districts affected by the flood were Rengasdengklok, Telukjambe Barat, Tirtajaya Pedes, Cikampek, Purwasari, Ciampel, Pangkalan Klari, Tempuran, Tirtamulya, Jatisari, Rawamerta, West Karawang, and Cilamaya Wetan.

This flood caused 8,539 housing units to be submerged and a number of infrastructure affected. Officials in the field, said Raditya, are currently still carrying out further data collection.

"The affected people reached 9,331 families or 28,329 people while 1,075 families or 4,184 people were displaced," explained Raditya.

Furthermore, the Karawang Regency BPBD together with the TNI, Polri, and related regional apparatus organizations and volunteers are also trying to help evacuate residents, including operating a public kitchen.

Not all of the evacuated residents fled to the evacuation posts, many fled to their relatives' homes, mosques and hotels.

"Meanwhile, BNPB has provided support in the form of assistance to the flood management command post, ready-to-use funds of Rp. 250 million, 10,000 masks, 80 blankets and 300 salt lamps," he said.

"BNPB also supports 1 rubber boat and 10 buoys needed when evacuating residents," he added.

Furthermore, the latest flood conditions are still occurring and PLN's electric lighting and water supply from PDM in Karawang Regency are still out.

"Head of BNPB Doni Monardo is scheduled to see the impact of the flood conditions in the Karawang and Bekasi areas today, Sunday, February 21," he concluded.
