Kim Jong-un's Letter Encouraging South Korea To Face The Corona Outbreak

JAKARTA - Behind his authoritarian figure, North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un has a humanistic side. He sent a letter to South Korean President Moon Jae-in, which contained support to be strong in facing the corona virus or COVID-19 outbreak.

Citing Reuters, the letter, sent on Wednesday, March 4, was addressed to South Koreans who are suffering from the outbreak of the corona virus. Kim also tried to comfort his close relative to keep his spirit fighting against the virus.

"(In Kim's letter) conveyed a message of comfort to the South Korean people who are battling the coronavirus outbreak," said a senior official at the presidential Blue House, Yoon Do-han.

Yoon also said in his letter that Kim shared his concerns over Moon's health, which seemed to underline the closeness between North and South Korea. Kim also wrote that he felt frustrated because he couldn't help South Korea fight the corona virus much.

Moreover, currently South Korea has confirmed 6,284 cases of people infected with the corona virus. Where 40 of them are reported to have died.

Although there have been no reports of North Korean citizens infected with the corona virus. The governments of the two countries agreed to close the border route separating the two countries on the Korean Peninsula.

Yoon added, the South Korean government will also send a reply letter to Kim Jong-un. However, in this reply, the South Korean government did not imply political intentions regarding the current situation, several days after North Korea conducted a ballistic missile test amid global concerns over the corona.

As a country, North Korea does not have formal diplomatic relations with many countries in the world. Therefore, it was stated that North Korea had tightly closed its borders to prevent the virus from entering its country.

North Korea claims not a single positive case of Corona has occurred in its country since the virus first broke out.
