Jokowi Asks KPU To Be Neutral: Acting According To The Rules Can Be Suspected, Especially Melenceng

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminded all parties to maintain the 2024 General Elections, including the General Election Commission (KPU). The KPU is asked to serve according to the rules and maintain neutrality.

This was conveyed by Jokowi while attending the National Consolidation (Konsolnas) for the 2024 Election Readiness. Initially, the president reminded that there should be no negligence in the implementation of democratic parties, especially in the digital era like now.

"I want to remind us that we are in an all-digital era. Even a little inaccuracy immediately disturbs people's trust. This kind of thing should not happen," Jokowi said as shown on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Saturday, December 30.

Jokowi reminded the need for elections to be maintained to run straight and fair. Neutrality must also be upheld by law enforcement officials and state civil servants (ASN).

"Then, the KPU is also completely neutral. Not side by side. Not side," he said.

"Just act according to the rules, the KPU can be suspected. Yes, right? Moreover, the KPU tries to deviate from the rules. This is what we must protect together so that (because, red) this is a danger to the KPU and the legitimacy of our election," Jokowi continued.

"The President asked the KPU to ensure that every citizen who has the right to vote can use it properly without discrimination", said Jokowi.

In addition, the KPU is also said that Jokowi has the task of providing massive political education. Not only about the stages of the election, but they are also asked to invite the public to become smart voters.

"We must invite voters to become smart voters. Don't trust what is called a hoax, let alone what can trigger conflict and division," said Jokowi.

"Political education must be carried out in a still-not only educating about the stages of elections but also inviting the public to become smart voters," he concluded.
