Convicted Of Makar Case In Papua Died In Takalar Prison, South Sulawesi

The convict of the Makar case in Papua, Yoran Pahabol (43), a resident of Class II Prison in Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi (Sulsel), died, Thursday, December 21.

The Head of Public Relations of the South Sulawesi Police, Kombes Komang Suartana, revealed that the convict Yoran was a man born in Jayapura. He was involved in a treason case with two of his colleagues. He was sentenced to 2.6 years in prison.

Yoran before he died began to experience illness on December 10, 2023, with complaints of fever. He was treated at the Takalar Regency Class II Prison clinic. On December 14, 2023, Yoran returned to the prison clinic to check his health and installed an IV.

However, due to his worsening condition, Yoran was referred to Padjonga Daeng Ngalle Hospital, Takalar Regency for treatment with a diagnosis of non-himoreijes truck.

During his 4 days of treatment, Yoran was again referred from Padjonga Daeng Ngalle Hospital to the Stroke Center of Dadi Hospital, Jalan Lanto Daeng Pasewang, Makassar.

Yoran finally died while being treated at the Dadi Hospital Stroke Center at around 08.00 WITA and was then cremated at Grestelina Hospital, Jalan Hertasning, Makassar and then sent to his family in Papua by plane.

"If we look at (sick) what our brother from Papua suffered, there were symptoms of stroke before he died. So we make sure, Yoran died of illness. There were no elements of violence and persecution," said Komang.

Meanwhile, the Head of Takalar Regency Class II Headquarters, Ashari said that Yoran was detained at the Makassar Class 1 Prison, before being transferred to Takalar Class II Prison.

According to him, Yoran during his sentence was a good citizen and never committed a violation.

"Of course we are surprised, because every day he is like another inmates who always participate in every activity in prisons, he is a good person. For that we are very sorry for Yoran's death," he said.
