Vice President: Government Monitors Development Of COVID-19 Cases, Certain Places To Use Masks

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin stressed that the government continues to monitor the current development of COVID-19, while continuing to measure how much impact it will have on society.

"Regarding COVID-19, the government has started monitoring now, and in certain places we have started using masks. So for the prokes problem, we will start, but of course we will measure the large development of COVID-19," said the Vice President as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 18.

This was conveyed by the Vice President in his statement after attending the Peak of the 2023 International Migrant Workers' Day Event at the Gelora Bung Karno Tennis Indoor, Jakarta.

Ma'ruf assessed that the most important thing to do now is vaccination to create immunity and minimize the potential for exposure to COVID-19.

"Those who have not (vaccinated) should be vaccinated to create immunity," he said.

The vice president said that so far the government has not taken any special steps in responding to the current development of COVID-19. However, if the potential for danger increases again, the government will immediately hold a limited meeting to determine concrete steps for handling.

Previously, President Joko Widodo said he had ordered Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin to follow and observe in detail the development of COVID-19 ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

According to the president, until now the Minister of Health has conveyed that the situation is still in good condition.
