The National Police Affirms No Human Rights Violation Behind Ustaz Maaher Death

JAKARTA - The National Police has denied any information that the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) found human rights violations behind the death of Ustadz Maaher At-Thuwailibi alias Soni Eranata.

Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan, emphasized that until now there has been no statement from Komnas HAM regarding the death of Ustadz Maaher.

"There is no (human rights violation) yet. We are open, please if someone makes a finding, but until now we have not accepted the findings," Ramadhan told reporters, Thursday, February 18.

Ramadan emphasized that the cause of Ustaz Maaher At-Thuwailibi's death was purely due to illness. But it could not be revealed about the illness he suffered because he did not get approval from the family.

"It has been said that Soni Eranata alias Maaher died due to illness and illness at the request of his family or his wife did not want to be conveyed," he said.

Ustaz Maaher died at the detention center (remand center) of the Indonesian Police Criminal Investigation Unit, on Monday, February 8, 2021. The cause of death was due to illness.
