JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has opened COVID-19 vaccination services at a number of homecoming post facilities to reduce the rate of cases during the Christmas and New Year 2024 holidays.

This information was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy after attending the Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta, Monday, December 11.

"The Indonesian Ministry of Health has opened vaccinations for those who have not been vaccinated and boosters," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

The Ministry of Health has prepared more than 143 homecoming posts spread along the Christmas and New Year 2024 homecoming routes.

Muhadjir appealed to travelers to be aware of the potential for COVID-19 transmission, which is currently experiencing an increasing trend in the country.

"The important thing is that these travelers during Christmas and New Year are aware of the COVID-19. It's better to comply with health protocols, but don't worry too much, it's comfortable to take a day off, the worship is also running as usual, there's nothing to worry about," he said.

Even though Indonesia has entered the COVID-19 endemic, Muhadjir said that this status does not mean that SARS-CoV-2 is the cause of the disappearance of COVID-19.

"That COVID-19 still exists, what does exist is endemic and indeed COVID-19 will not disappear at all," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono said the government still has a supply of 4.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine that can still be used to meet the needs of Christmas and New Year's travelers.

He said the trend of increasing COVID-19 cases in the range of 35-40 cases as of December 6, 2023, with the number of hospitalized patients recorded at 60-131 people, still at a controlled level.

"The increase is still not too significant. It is still under control," he said.
