PSI Chairman Kaesang Wants The Vice Presidential Candidate Debate To Be Held

JAKARTA - Chairman of the DPP Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Kaesang Pangarep said that the vice presidential debate for the 2024 presidential election should still be held by the General Election Commission (KPU).

"Yes, if it's better, just hold it," said Kaesang in Surabaya, East Java, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, December 2.

He believes that the presidential and vice presidential candidates he carries, namely Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, are also ready to participate in the debate.

"I think it would be much better if there was a vice presidential debate," said the youngest son of President Joko Widodo.

Nevertheless, he respects whatever the KPU's decision regarding the debate format of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

"We will follow what the KPU said, it will be held, come on, no, it will be held," said Kaesang.

Previously, KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari said that all pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates participating in the 2024 presidential election must attend every debate session.

According to Hasyim, presidential and vice presidential candidates must come together in a debate to show their unity and cohesiveness to the public.

"So that the public is more confident in their appearance during the debate," said Hasyim after the Preparation Coordination Meeting for the 2024 Presidential-Cawapres Pair Debate at the KPU Office, Jakarta, Thursday.

He said the formation was different from the 2019 presidential election debate, where at that time not all pairs of candidates were present in person at the debate location.
