DPT Data Allegedly Leaked, These Are 3 Steps Taken By The Ministry Of Communication And Information

The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) will take three steps to handle the alleged leakage of the 2024 Election Fixed Voter List (DPT) data in the General Election Commission (KPU) system.

Director General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Information Usman Kansong said,

"So, there are three things that the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has done, the first is to write to the KPU asking for clarification, the second is to directly trace the data leak, and the third is coordinating with the relevant agencies," said Usman in an online discussion, Saturday.

Usman said the first step taken by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics was to send an electronic letter to the KPU, not long after information emerged regarding data leakage. The purpose of the letter is to ask for clarification regarding the truth of information related to the potential leakage or theft of the DPT data.

Usman explained that the move was part of a procedure regulated by applicable laws and regulations. Clarification from the KPU is considered a first step to ensure the truth and identify further actions that need to be taken.

In addition to sending a clarification letter, he said, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is also actively conducting direct searches regarding data leakage. The move was taken as a concrete effort to verify information circulating in public.

The third step, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics conducted intensive coordination with relevant agencies, including the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), and the KPU.

The coordination aims to take joint steps in handling cases of suspected data leakage. Synergy between agencies is considered important to ensure data security and tackle potential further risks.

In addition to these three steps, continued Usman, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has reported the development of this situation to Commission I of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI). The report includes a summary of the actions that have been taken and the next steps that will be taken to overcome the alleged leakage of KPU data.

Previously, an anonymous hacker named "Jimbo" appeared claiming to have hacked the KPU website and accessed voter data from the site.

The account shares 500 thousand example data in one upload on the BreachForums site. The site is usually used to sell hacked data.

The data that was successfully accessed by "Jimbo" includes personal information, such as NIK, KK number, ID card number, voter passport number abroad, full name, gender, date of birth, place of birth, marriage status, full address, and polling code (TPS).
