The Nickname 'Gemoy' Criticized, Secretary General Of Gerindra: Don't Attack Prabowo Because He Can't Be Creative

Secretary-General of the Gerindra Party Ahmad Muzani, responded to those who criticized the nickname 'gemoy' and tried to degrade the term satuy which is currently attached to the campaign style of pair number 2, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Muzani considers that the parties who attacked Prabowo-Gibran because of the millennial abundance of the gemoy were caused by the inability of other parties to fill the space for creativity and innovation in politics.

"Don't attack us when the creativity and innovation we do with satuy, with a gemoy that is considered eliminating the substance of democracy. This is the situation we face today and I hope that all Gerindra cadres are calm, take it easy, just smile," said Muzani in his press statement, Wednesday, November 29.

According to Muzani, the identity of the gemoys and santuy pinned to Prabowo-Gibran is one of the creations and innovations in Indonesia's political space that adapts to the times.

"People's fun with Prabowo Subianto has increased sharply. That's increasing because the atmosphere of millennials is now passionate about this couple. That trend is caused by us innovating and creating the needs of today's era," said Muzani.

"So Mr. Prabowo, whose position is like that, is packaged into a mood. But the creativity that has become passionate about Prabowo has finally caused a positive effect among millennials and gen Z," he continued.

Muzani said that his party was calm in facing criticism, blasphemy, hoaxes and slander by considering the term gemoy as a way that eliminates the substance of democracy and does not offer ideas in democracy.

"The substance of democracy is our ability to convince voters to be interested in what they expect. Gemoy or gimmick is not something that violates democratic principles because the people will ultimately make their choice in the ballot box," added the Deputy Chairperson of the MPR.

Previously, Deputy Chairperson of the PKS Syuro Council Sohibul Iman satirized those who used the 'gemoy' and'santuy' games to vote in the 2024 election.

It is known, the term "gemoy" which refers to the word "excitement of contemporary" was called by Prabowo supporters. Meanwhile, said Sanduy or what means relaxed is the political narrative echoed by the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) led by Kaesang Pangarep.

"Now there are terms gemory, santuy, as if those who can lead this country are those who are happy. Gemoy or satuy is certainly something unhealthy," said Sohibul at the PKS National Campaign Kick Off: Road to Final 2024 at the Bumi Wiyata Hotel, Depok, West Java, Sunday, November 26.

Sohibul assessed that the use of games in politics was legitimate. However, the former PKS president regretted that there were parties who deliberately used the game to garner voters and did not want to compete with ideas.

"So, PKS pioneered the existence of political ideas, this is to overcome conditions that we didn't expect, especially these days, I am very concerned, to win democracy, this democratic competition is now more fluid," said Sohibul.
