Vice President Meets Premier Sarawak To Discuss PMI And Carbon Protection

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin met Premier Sarawak Malaysia Tan Sri Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg in Kuching, Malaysia, discussing carbon trading, protecting Indonesian migrant workers, and investing.

"How do we build similarities in the context of carbon trading. We have the potential to be able to sell carbon and there is no such standard, the regulations do not yet exist. We hope that in COP28 later, it can be more concrete," said Ma'ruf after the meeting in Kuching, Malaysia, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 29.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ma'ruf expressed his appreciation for the holding of the Global Muslim Business Forum 2023 in Kuching on Tuesday night (28/11).

Ma'ruf said the event was extraordinary, especially since Indonesia and Malaysia have the same spirit to encourage the development of the halal industry.

"We encourage this to be more concrete, yes; not only forum, but also produce global business measures in the form of world trade, world trade Muslims in the form of interconnecting with each other. I think big work can be profitable," explained Ma'ruf.

Regarding carbon trading, he continued, Indonesia has great potential for carbon emissions sales, because Indonesia is intensively developing an industry and a sustainable economy.

Apart from economic matters, the issue of PMI protection was also discussed at the meeting. Ma'ruf received a report that PMI in Sarawak received good treatment.

"There are schools, about halal, migrant workers. They also have some kind of training places, because generally (PMI) we work in palm oil and maybe also in refineries, yes, and construction. So it's better," he added.

The two of them also discussed investment cooperation, one of which was related to the construction of a hydroelectric plant (PLTA) in North Kalimantan.

"We have also invested in cooperation, one of which was yesterday the hydropower plant in North Kalimantan, (Sarawak) also invested there 25 percent. This is so there are some that he (Sarawak) also invests in us," said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.
