Democrats In Trouble, Party Founders Confused 'Seat' Senior

JAKARTA - It has not been a year since Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono has become chairman of the Democratic Party. However, the party bearing the Mercy symbol is already in trouble. AHY admitted that he would be overthrown from the general chairman.

This confusion is said to be because the Democrats under the leadership of AHY do not accommodate senior parties. In fact, one of the declarators, Max Sopacua, called himself an angkot passenger who was dropped off by the side of the road.

Then what happened to the seniors and declarators of the Democratic Party? The founder of the Democratic Party, Darmizal, said the fate of the declarators at this time did not know what was going on. This is because most of the declarators are no longer in the party.

"If we see the founders in a place that is respected, in one position as an honorary citizen of the party. So, now where the founders (of the Democratic Party, ed) do not know," said Darmizal when contacted by VOI, Monday, February 15th.

This condition made him wonder about the stewardship of the Democrats under AHY. "I don't know whether the current board understands the founders or not, do they know the founders," he added.

He then gave an example, as a founder and senior cadre of the party he was even accused of having his own political agenda by providing support for President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who ran for the second time in the 2019 Presidential Election.

In fact, he considered that his support was not wrong and had gone through various considerations including assessing the closeness of Jokowi and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who is currently the General Chair of the Democratic Party.

He emphasized that the different attitudes between the founders and the senior cadres were never based on dislike or resentment. He assessed that many different decisions were taken with the central board merely to improve the party's achievements.

Moreover, reflecting on several elections, the Democrat Party's numbers have now dropped drastically. So, things like this then cause concern for the founders and senior cadres of the party.

"We see the trend, 2013 elections have decreased by only 11 percent, 2019 is only 7 percent, this is even smaller than the beginning of the party's establishment," he said.

"So the trigger now is not to let this party become a party in accordance with the previous analysis. So a seasonal party. Right now it is getting smaller here, so the conscience moves to do something," Darmizal concluded.
