Hotel Room Occupancy Rates In Bali Decreased In January 2020

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali Province recorded the room occupancy rate (TPK) of star hotels in Bali at 59.29 percent in January 2020. This figure decreased by 3.26 percent compared to December 2019 which reached 62.55 percent.

Based on published data from BPS Bali, which was quoted on Tuesday 3 March, the number of foreign tourists in Bali Province in January 2020 also recorded a decline. Foreign tourists to Bali fell 4.26 percent or 528,883 visits, compared to December's record. The details of foreign tourists who came through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport were 526,823 visits and from sea ports were 2,060 visits.

The most foreign tourists coming to Bali came from China 21.09 percent, Australia 19.49 percent, India 5.63 percent, Russia 4.82 percent, South Korea 4.45 percent, the United States 3.86 percent, England 3, 51 percent, Japan 3.23 percent, Malaysia 2.77 percent, and Singapore 2.16 percent.

The average length of stay of foreign and Indonesian guests at star hotels in Bali in January 2020 was 2.82 days, an increase of 0.07 percent, compared to the average length of stay of guests in December 2019 (month to month) which was recorded. for 2.75 days.

Head of Bali Province BPS Adi Nugroho said that up to February the room occupancy rate was still decreasing. He considers January to be the low season, and he cannot say the impact of COVID-19.

Even so, he said, with the presence of COVID-19 that had entered Indonesia, the regional and national economic sectors had to be prepared to face various possibilities. The reason is, the virus causes humans to limit their movements which of course will limit business in an area.

According to him, limited human movement will make all transactions in any business sector very likely to be disrupted. He has also imagined that Bali will lose 1.1 million tourists due to COVID-19, and this will clearly have an impact on the island's economy.
