Five Immigration officers at Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport are still being investigated by the High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati). The five were arrested on suspicion of extortion in fast track services for tourists entering the Island of the Gods.
"Not yet a suspect, not yet detained. So we will wait for the next announcement. That's all," said Assistant for Special Crimes (Aspidsus) of the Bali High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) Dedy Kurniawan, Wednesday, November 15.
The alleged extortion was investigated by the Bali Prosecutor's Office after receiving a report regarding the collection of fast track services which was actually applied for free.
"(For victims) foreign nationals who enter Indonesia," said Dedy.
According to him, the five Ngurah Rai Immigration officers who were secured in OTT were officers who had just received a decree to serve at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.
"From the results of the examination, it seems that the (new) decree is new. We just secured it, not arrested and we ask for information," he explained.
From the information received by the Attorney General's Office, the team went to the field on Tuesday, November 14 and found allegations of extortion by Immigration officers.
"We checked the field and it is true that there is a fact that there is a fast track misuse, with a levy value of approximately Rp. 100-Rp. 200 million per month," he explained.
