JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno believes that the transformation of quality and sustainable tourism (green tourism) carried out by Indonesia can open up more job opportunities for the community.

Sandiaga said Indonesia has a high commitment to transformation towards green tourism or what is also known as a green economy.

"The transition to green tourism will create green jobs or green jobs. The investments we are making show our commitment, including reducing carbon emissions from a total of 8 percent to 4 percent in 2030," he said while speaking at the "Bloomberg New Economy Forum" event in Singapore, Thursday, November 9.

Investment in the tourism transition effort, said Sandi, includes in the public transportation sector such as high-speed trains. In addition, various programs in the capital city of Nusantara will bring the idea that Indonesia is an important part of the realization of a new economy (green economy).

During the event, Sandiaga also met with Deputy Managing Director of Bloomberg Media David Hearns.

The meeting discussed a collaboration plan that could be carried out for efforts to increase the number of foreign tourists to Indonesia. Especially from several major market countries, namely China and India.

"Bloomberg offers several collaborations that we will optimize so that tourists from China and India can increase," said Sandiaga.

The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources together with South Korea have worked together to develop an E-Mobility center with various program focuses.

The focus of the program includes converting oil-fueled motorcycles into electric motorcycles, accelerating the development of public electric vehicle charging stations and public electric vehicle battery charging stations, as well as electric vehicle service centers in Indonesia.

According to Sandiaga, this technological development can stimulate economic development in the tourism sector and the creative economy which creates opportunities for job growth, new businesses, and innovative services.

"This is not only about modernizing the transportation system, but also about improving the experience for tourists. Business actors can offer unique, quality and sustainable tourism experiences such as the use of electric vehicles on tours or also the use of augmented reality," he said.

This opportunity, said Sandiaga, must be maximized properly, one of which is by investing in environmentally friendly and innovative transportation solutions.

By developing environmentally friendly transportation, Indonesia can further promote sustainable tourism, reduce carbon footprint, and pave the way for a more dynamic creative economy.

During the event, Sandiaga also met with representatives from Hyundai to encourage efforts to provide environmentally friendly transportation in Indonesian tourist destinations such as Bali and other priority tourism destinations.

"So, we can classify regional destinations as areas with low carbon emissions and we will decarbonize them, these electric vehicles will become the majority of vehicles used in super priority destinations," Sandiaga said.
