YOGYAKARTA At the end of October 2023, the Constitutional Court announced the names of three members of the Honorary Council of the Constitutional Court (MKMK). They are Jimly Asshiddiqie, Bintan Saragih, and Wahiduddin Adams.

MKMK members are tasked with handling reports of alleged violations of the code of ethics and guidelines for judges regarding decisions that allow Gibran Rakabuming Raka to run for the 2024 presidential election. Check out the brief profile of 3 MKM members in the following article.

1. Jimly Asshiddiqie

Jimly Asshiddiqie's profile is the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court for the 2003-2008 period. After his term of office expired, he was replaced by Mahfud MD who is currently running as a vice presidential candidate to accompany Ganjar Pranowo.

Adapted from the official website of the Constitutional Court, Tuesday, November 7, 2023, Jimly started his career as a teacher at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia since 1981.

In 1998, Jimly became Professor of Constitutional Law. Four years later or in 2002, he was appointed as an Extraordinary Professor of Constitutional Law at the Police Science College (PTIK).

The man who was born in Palembang on April 17, 1956, was noted to have been a team of regulatory experts for the preparation of the Constitutional Court Bill. He is also trusted as a member of a team of experts from the MPR Working Body who also contributed insights to amendments to the 1945 Constitution. Therefore, it is not surprising that Jimly was nominated by the government and the Indonesian House of Representatives to become the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court in 2003.

After no longer serving as Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Jimly was appointed as the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres) and Chairman of the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP) for the 2012-2017 period.

In addition to occupying important positions in government, Jimly is also active in several organizations, such as members of the MUI Central Leadership Council (1985-2000), Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of The Habibie Center (2000), to the Chairperson of the Advisory God of the Association of Cendekiawan Muslims throughout Indonesia (2005-2010).

The position held by Jimly Asshiddiqie is currently a member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) from DKI Jakarta.

2. Bintan Saragih

Bintan Saragih is a member of the Honorary Council of the Constitutional Court (MKMK) from an unnsur academic.

Bintan was noted to have been a member of the Constitutional Court Ethics Council for the 2017-2020 period as a member of the Honorary Council.

He studied undergraduate education at the University of Indonesia. Next, he continued his doctoral education in the field of Constitutional Law at Padjadjaran University.

In addition to being a member of the MKMK, Bintan also serves as Senior Advisor to the Faculty of Law, Pelita Harapan University (UPH). In addition, he also taught subjects to the Method of Law Research, Constitutional Law, and State Science.

3. Wahiduddin Adams

Born in Palembang January 17, 1954, Wahiduddin Adams is the most senior constitutional judge. He has held this position since 2014.

Wahiduddin started his career in the bureaucracy before being appointed as a constitutional judge.

He was noted to have been the Director General of Legislation at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).

Not only that, Wahid is also an academic at UIN Jakarta and Muhammadiyah University in Jakarta. He holds the course of Law.

Wahiduddin Adam was also active in a number of organizations, such as the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI), the Central Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU), and the National Zakat Amil Agency (BAZNAS).

Wahid was included in one of the Constitutional Court judges who had different opinions (dissenting opinions) on the decision to grant the presidential and vice-presidential age lawsuit at least 40 years old or experienced as a regional head both at the provincial and district/city levels.
