JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan reviewed the readiness of the land to be developed as a Herbal and Horticultural Science and Technology Park (TSTH2) in Pollung District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatra.

"Indonesia has 30,000 herbal species, therefore the President wants a world-class herbal research center, which we are currently developing together with BPPT and five universities led by IT Del," said Coordinating Minister Luhut as quoted by Antara, Friday, February 12.

Coordinating Minister Luhut said that research on the development of high quality horticultural seeds would be conducted at the herbal center.

"This area will become a center for herbal and horticultural seeds whose results can be enjoyed by the community," he added.

The seed center will also support a 2,000 hectare food security program which will then be built around the location.

Later, roads will also be built that can integrate the food estate, botanical gardens and TSTH2 areas.

Road construction will begin to be handled in March 2021 and is targeted to be connected in May 2021 and completed in July 2021.

The road opening is expected to cut the travel time from Silangit Airport to the location to approximately 45 minutes.

In the area, supporting facilities for TSTH2 will also be built, laboratories, collection gardens, hatcheries and research, silvopastura, natural tourism, artificial tourism, offices, mosques for researchers, and guest houses.

"I hope we can plant good and superior seeds here, so that we can be proud to say these are from Pollung. For this reason, it is hoped that the community and the government must cooperate with each other, and most importantly work with hearts," said Coordinating Minister Luhut.
