Democrat Party Seniors Are Sad. Party Electability Is Increasingly In Freefall

JAKARTA - Senior and one of the founders of the Democratic Party, Darmizal admitted that he was concerned about the electability conditions of the party that were increasingly involved. Should, if taken care of properly this will not happen.

According to Darmizal, when Hadi Utomo became chairman, the party's electability was 21 percent. Then, the party's electability was eroded to 11 percent because Anas Urbaningrum, when he was chairman, was involved in a corruption case.

"In the 2014 election, the Democrat Party was only 11 percent, down from 21 percent. In fact, we hope to go up, not down," Darmizal told VOI as quoted on Wednesday, February 10.

However, this downturn did not improve. When Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) became chairman, he said, the party's electability was actually getting worse. "Continuing to his second term (SBY), so 7 percent at the 2019 election," said Darmizal.

According to him, leading and managing a party does require one's own abilities and there are many processes to go through. It is not like today, namely Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), who is the chairman, is like turning the palm of his hand, aka lightning fast without any process.

"There was an oddity when this young man led the party at a congress which only lasted 4 hours. What were the irregularities? If the goal was to make the crown prince the chairman, why not just Ibas? I know and naturally, he still has an egalitarian culture, understands practical politics and national politics, "he said.

Therefore, he stressed, it is natural that some cadres want to change the chairman. The aim is for the good of the party to be more powerful and victorious.

Then, he stressed, AHY's reaction regarding a meeting of a number of cadres and former Democratic cadres with Moeldoko to leave his position as chairman was a panic. Even though the meeting was to discuss disaster management.

"Yes, if fragile leaders continue to panic, it is only natural that people will want to change their leaders. Because they are afraid that today's party conditions will not pass the parliamentary threshold," he said.
