JAKARTA - The Sintang Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) named three fake journalists as suspects for alleged extortion of petrol station owners in Sintang, West Kalimantan Province.

"Determination of this suspect after investigators conducted a series of examinations and case titles, the three of them have also been detained since two days ago," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit at Sintang Police, AKP Hoerrudin in a written statement in Sintang, as reported by Antara, Wednesday. He explained that detention warrants had also been issued for the three of them and had spent two nights at the Sintang Police Headquarters cell.

The three suspects have the initials ER, P and HM. They were previously caught red-handed receiving money from extortion at a Warung Kopi Kita, Jalan PKP Mujahidin, Sintang District, Sintang District, Saturday, February 6 at around 16:20 WIB. They haven't enjoyed the results of extortion either.

The three of them were arrested on a report by Abraham Siahaya, the owner of a gas station on Jalan Lintas Melawi-Sintang, who admitted to being threatened and extorted by the three fake journalists. "To the police, the resident of Baning Kota admitted that he was asked for money with threats," he said.

"Based on this report, our Sintang Police Satreskrim team was deployed to carry out investigations and finally arrested the three perpetrators," he said.

He added, from the results of the interim investigation, the incident began on Friday, February 5 at around 21.45 WIB, the three people came to the gas station owned by the victim on Jalan Lintas Melawi-Sintang.

"Then they took photos of consumers filling fuel at the gas station with jerry cans, then, the three perpetrators asked the victim for an amount of Rp10 million. With threats, if the victim did not fulfill the request, the photos would be published in the media. "he said.

Because of fear, the victim then complied with the request. However, the victim only agreed to give Rp. 5 million, so it was agreed that a meeting and delivery of the money was agreed on Saturday, February 6 at Warung Kopi Kita, Jalan PKP Mujahidin, he said.

"After receiving money from the victim, at that time the perpetrators were secured by members of the Satreskrim Polres Sintang. Until now there are only three suspects," he said.

In this case, the three suspects were suspected of alleged extortion and / or crimes against someone as referred to in Article 368 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code and or Article 335 paragraph (1) to 1e of the Criminal Code.

In this arrest, the police also confiscated evidence in the form of extortion amounting to Rp5 million and a cellphone used to take pictures of the victim's petrol station activities and conversations, he said.
