JAKARTA - Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim stated that the existence of the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) was able to bring better changes in universities.
"I give my deepest appreciation to all the task force on duty, which can make changes in universities better," he said in a statement in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, October 8.
Nadiem said the PPKS Task Force had been able to prove that the government was committed to protecting the nation from sexual violence, especially those in universities.
The Ministry of Education and Culture views sexual violence in universities as a big, deep problem and requires serious attention.
Therefore, the Ministry of Education and Culture has issued Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Permendikbudristek) Number 30 of 2021 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Higher Education.
Referring to this memendikbudristek, universities must become a place free from sexual violence because they have the potential to damage a learning environment that should be safe and inclusive as well as violate human rights and interfere with individual development.
The Permendikbudristek also underlined the urgency of implementing PPKS in the academic environment in order to create a conducive learning atmosphere.
"With increased awareness of future sexual violence, stricter supervision and implementation of the modikbudristek," said Nadiem.
Universities have a responsibility to create an environment that is in accordance with this standard and the implementation of the modikbudristek is the basis for carrying out these obligations.
Inspector General (Irjen) of the Ministry of Education and Culture Chatarina Muliana Girsang emphasized that the task force's efforts to implement PPKS have challenges so that strategies are needed to provide perceptions as a force for the problem of sexual violence.
In addition, students and campaigns on social media further strengthen demands that universities take concrete steps in preventing and dealing with sexual violence according to the principles set out in the regulation.
