Hasto Calls Gibran Report To PDIP After Proposed To Be Prabowo's Vice Presidential Candidate

Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto said his cadre, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, had reported his proposal to become a vice presidential candidate (cawapres) Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).

This was conveyed by Hasto after the issue of Gibran being teased by the Gerindra Party as Prabowo's vice presidential candidate promoted by the Advanced Indonesia Coalition. He said the report was submitted by President Joko Widodo's eldest son (Jokowi) in a number of internal PDIP meetings.

"Mas Gibran has also conveyed to us in various internal dialogues regarding this matter," Hasto told reporters at JIExpo Kemayoran quoted on Sunday, October 1.

Even so, Hasto did not want to speculate more about the temptation. "We believe that the party is to fight for a bigger interest," he said.

As previously reported, Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party Board of Trustees, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, said that he would be the ideal vice presidential candidate if he was paired with presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto. Although, he is considered lack of experience.

"Regarding the figure of Vice President, Pak Prabowo, I think it is no secret that Mas Gibran is one of the candidates for vice president," he said in Surabaya, Friday, September 29.

"Is he ideal, ideal vice presidential candidate? I think this all depends on the decision of the Constitutional Court (Mahkamah Konstitusi) that we all look forward to. But, I think it's all ideal," continued Hashim.

Meanwhile, PDIP DPP chairman Puan Maharani admitted that there was no problem that Gibran Rakabuming Raka was tempted to become a vice presidential candidate. He said the decision was entirely in the hands of the Mayor of Solo.

"Yes, it's the one who proposes to have certain considerations. Only those who are proposed whether they want it or not. That's all. Just supposing this," said Puan during the PDIP National Working Meeting at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Saturday, September 30.

Gibran as a young person, continued Puan, is indeed one of the candidates to be considered as a vice presidential candidate. Moreover, he has achievements as a regional head.

"So, don't look at young people old or later men or women. Everyone has the same opportunity to be able to progress and fight in contestation," said the chairman of the DPR RI.
