JAKARTA - EU Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Sujiro Seam said the European Union would help the government and the people of Indonesia to tackle climate change.

"Through our support for a just Energy Transitional Partnership, we will help the government and the people of Indonesia, take part, do their part, also to fight climate change," Seam said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, September 23.

Seam said this when he was going to attend the Green Picnic' on Saturday, which was held by the European Union Delegation for Indonesia as the main event of EU Green Diplomacy Weeks2023.

Seam and the ambassadors of EU member countries traveled symbolically by riding the MRT to the event held by the European Union Delegation for Indonesia as a form of their commitment to a greener future.

The ambassadors of EU member countries are Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Finland, and Sweden.

"We all have to be committed to climate change. And this is the reason why we are in partnership with Indonesia and Southeast Asia," said Seam.

Seam melanjutkan, kendaraan utama dalam kemitraan tersebut adalah Kemitraan Transisi Energi Kekeadilan (Just Energy Transition Partnership/JETP).

JETP, a funding program of 20 billion US dollars (around Rp. 300 trillion) launched at the G20 Bali Summit, is a commitment from the International Partners Group (IPG) consisting of members of the G7, Norway and Denmark groups for Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the G7 member group countries consist of the United States, Italy, Britain, France, Japan, Canada, and Germany.

To strengthen the European Union's commitment to supporting the partnership, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced that it will provide financial and technical support for sustainable transportation development.

This financial and technical support is a form of EU support for sustainable transportation and energy transition to support the Indonesian government's efforts to tackle climate change.

On the same occasion, Head of Group EIB for Southeast Asia and Pacific Sunita Lukkhoo said that EIB is not a commercial bank, but a bank driven by EU policies.

However, according to Lukhoo, before all these policies existed, the European Union and Indonesia had the same common goals and values.

"Our actions are to support projects, Green Projects, everything useful, sustainable, and environmentally friendly," said Lukkhoo.
