East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa instructed to stop the boxing sports (sports) match, at the Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) East Java VIII/2023.

This decision was made because one of the boxers from Bondowoso, Farhat Mika Rahel Riyanto, died while being treated at the Jombang Hospital, Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

"After coordinating with the Governor, he ordered that the boxing match held in Jombang be stopped. So, there will be no follow-up," said the Chairman of the East Java KONI, M. Nabil, Tuesday, September 12.

Nabil said the Governor of East Java also expressed his deep sorrow after hearing that one of the boxing sports athletes had died.

"The Governor and all the East Java KONI management express their deep condolences for the death of the young Bondowoso athlete. May the deceased be accepted in the best place in the sight of Allah SWT and the family left behind will be given fortitude," he said.

From the confirmation provided by the technical delegation or TD of the East Java VIII/2023 Porprov boxing match, all match procedures and stages have been carried out. "This means that there are no violations committed by the organizers before or during the match," he said.

As a form of responsibility, PB Porprov together with a number of East Java KONI administrators made a pilgrimage to the funeral home in Bondowoso, led directly by the Chairman of PB Porprov VIII/2023 East Java, Ali Affandi.

Regarding the chronology of the incident, Nabil revealed that the athlete suddenly fainted while undergoing a match against Blitar Regency in the last eight.

During the match, in the match which took place quite strictly in the first and second rounds, Farhat actually took the lead in an assessment. But in the third round Farhat suddenly fainted.

Then the medical team in the field immediately carried out on-site treatment, by providing breathing assistance with oxygen cylinders that had been prepared by the committee. "But because his condition did not recover, the medical team decided to take Farhat to the Jombang Hospital," he said.

The team of doctors at the Jombang Hospital also carried out a CT Scan, which resulted in bleeding in the boxer's brain. From there, the athlete was then treated in the ICU room, but until 02.30 WIB the boxer's consciousness also recovered. After waiting two hours, the athlete was finally declared dead.

"The stages of security, health, match standards have been met with procedures, including the feasibility of competing. Starting from physical health checks and previous match records have been checked. Weighing will not be carried out if the health check is not good. So the match automatically cannot be held if the health condition is not good," he said.

Meanwhile, East Java KONI Legal Division, Mustofa Abidin, said from the statements of all parties, including the organizing committee for the East Java VIII/2023 Porprov boxing match, that everything had been done according to the provisions.

"No rules have been violated, both the rules of the match and the rules for the equipment for the completeness of the match, medical support is also ready. The handling is direct, there are medical personnel there, after that they are delivered to the hospital, and when they arrive there, the athlete is immediately handled intensively in accordance with the release given by the hospital," said Mustofa.

"This means that the match will be held in accordance with the provisions both in terms of implementation and security and safety guarantees," he continued.
