Erick Thohir Wants 12 BUMN Children And Grandchildren To Take The Floor On The Indonesia Stock Exchange

JAKARTA - State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir said that his party would encourage more government companies to enter the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI).

"In the next three years, we will list more BUMNs, both through their subsidiaries and business grandchildren," he said during his opening speech for the first debut of Bank Syariah Indonesia on the IDX, Thursday, February 4.

However, the bosses of state companies are reluctant to say the exact number of corporations that are ready to take the floor on the stock exchange.

"I don't want to say that the numbers will be searched for, but there are 8 to 12 companies that we will go public with until 2023," he said.

Erick explained that the strategy of releasing shares to the public is one way to keep the condition of the business entity in a maintained status.

"This is also an effort from us to create business transparency and the application of the principles of good corporate governance," he added.

For information, BUMN itself has an index that measures the price performance of 20 selected listed company shares called IDX BUMN20.

On the same occasion, the President Director of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk. (BRIS) Hery Gunardi said that his party is targeting the company to be included in the IDX BUMN20 list.

"We hope that BRIS can become the new prima donna in the stock exchange and enter the IDX BUMN20 index," he said.

This intention was supported by BRIS's outstanding performance with BRIS's market capitalization at the IPO of Rp4.96 trillion to Rp112.9 trillion by February 3. Then, the increase also occurred in the stock price, with a value at the time of the IPO of IDR510 per sheet to IDR2,750.

"We hope this performance can encourage and inspire the financial sector and Islamic companies to enter the stock exchange," added Hery.
